Kinzie Builders says it has started construction at Harbour House, an emergency shelter in Des Plaines.

The shelter will provide temporary lodging and support services for young women (ages 12 to 20) and transgender youth experiencing homelessness. In partnership with OKW Architects, Kinzie is providing construction services at a reduced rate to The Harbour, the Park Ridge, Ill.-based not-for-profit organization that will operate the shelter.

The new 3,500-sq.-ft. building will include housing for up to 10 residents and common spaces such as a kitchen/dining area, great room, main office, intake/therapy room, study, laundry room, storage/utility space and shared bathroom facilities.

The new $1.34-million project is projected to complete in February 2022.
