East Peoria has signed a contract with River City Construction to build new fire station on the Illinois Central College East Peoria campus, for a maximum cost of $3.4 million.
Council has secured $1.9 million in state grants for construction and approved a 50-year lease with ICC for the land at a rate of one dollar per year.
In 2021 the city awarded a $215,000 contract to Midwest Engineering Associates for survey and professional design services at the proposed fire station. Initial engineering fees are estimated at just over $215,000.
The one-story station building will include living quarters and an apparatus bay with up to two entrances off Centennial Drive.
Officials began planning for a new fire station in the area more than 30 years ago.
