Plumbers Union starts construction of training center at 1400 W. Washington

The Plumbers Union (UA) local 130 training trust fund has been issued a $19 million building permit to construct a training center on the site of former union administrative offices at 1400 W. Washington.

The project’s general contractor is W. E. O’Neil Construction Co. with offices just down the street at 1245 W. Washington.

The three-story building will have a penthouse and a 3,835 sq. ft. green roof. The architect of record, Grant Hhlir, works at Gensler. The plumbing contractor is Chas F. Bruckner & Son, Inc. Other contractors include: Refrigeration and ventilation, Edwards Engineering Inc.; masonry, O’Neil Industries, Inc. (associated with W.E. O’Neil Construction), and electrical, Sharlen Electrical Company.

 The W.E. O’Neil site says the 120,000 sq. ft. training center “is being designed as teaching tool for apprentices and will incorporate state-of-the-art technology and plumbing training workshops” and is structured as a design-build project.
