Oak Park’s newest tall building at the intersection of Lake St. and Forest Ave. is taking shape, after years of delays and controversy.
The building, which The Village of Oak Park’s website says will be 21 stories tall, will primarily include rental apartments, with some space for a municipal parking garage and ground floor retail.
The original concept of the project was for a hotel and condominiums, but after the project restarted (it stalled in 2010 during the recession), developers Golub & Company and WOOD Partners (which reportedly acquired the property out of foreclosure from Sertus Capital Partners), decided to make it into rental apartments.
Gensler is the architect and Tishman Construction is serving as general contractor.
The project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2016.
