Living research gets makeover with $6.7 million Northwestern University building renovation

Northwestern University’s Simpson Querry Institute for Biomedical Research is getting a makeover.

The city has approved a $6.7 million renovation/alteration permit for the building at 303 E Superior St. to: “Replace cage washing equipment, upgrade finishes and infill unused floor pits to expand usable area of vivarium, 7,830 sq. ft. at sub-basement level of fully sprinklered high-rise building.”

The project’s general contractor is Norcon, Inc. Key subtrades include: Electrical – Kelso-Burnett Co.; masonryCertified Masonry, Inc. and Tor Construction Company Inc.; plumber/plumbing – DW Mechanical Group, Inc.; refrigeration – Great Lakes Plumbing and Heating and ventilation – Air Design Systems.
