The village of Lake Barrington’s Plan Commission has recommended Enon, Ohio-based Speedway LLC’s proposal to construct a gas station at Northwest Highway and Kelsey Rd., despite opposition from some residents.
The gas station will have 20 pumps, a 4,608-sq. ft. convenience store and an automatic car wash. According to Chris Kalischefski, an architect for Speedway, 20 pumps are needed to manage demand during peak hours, Dailyherald.com reports.
The plan, first proposed in August, has been revised because of feedback, though the changes are mostly cosmetic with the size unchanged, said commissioner Frank Menconi. He voted against the plan because of concerns about its size.
Residents have concerns that the gas station will introduce criminal activity near a future middle school campus development on the adjacent site owned by Barrington Area Unit School District 220.
