Kinexx Modular Construction has installed Chicago’s first two-unit prefabricated home in East Garfield Park.
The two units are back-to-back (rather than one over the other), writes Chicago Cityscape’s Steven Vance, who reported on the project in a March 9 blog post.
“Like Kinexx’s other modular houses, the building was erected and weathertight in two days,” Vance wrote.
“We started at 7 a.m. on Monday morning and the entire structure was erected by 2 p.m. on Tuesday,” he quoted Kinexx CEO Josh Braun as saying. The roof was added on Wednesday and the next day, ComEd turned on electricity.
The approximately $245,000 townhouses are part of the Harrison Row project, built by Fain’s Development and Structured Development. They have about 1,500 sq. ft. per unit.
In an earlier statement, Structured Development said 33 new three-bedroom, 1.5-bath townhomes will be constructed, including 14 duplex townhomes, or 28 units, built using modular construction.
