This listing of the top 10 in the mechanical contractors industry reflects an amalgam of experience, relationships, and perceptions. While this isn’t a scientific group – there are many other companies worthy of recognition – it provides a clue about some of the diversity, initiative and community focus. This list includes forward-thinking businesses which have embraced community engagement, high standards of service and delivery, and innovation to support the construction industry.

The listing is alphabetical and should not be considered a ranking. Information presented here is taken from the companies’ websites, and in some cases, additional research and responses to our surveys.

American Combustion Service, Inc. (ACSI)

This company specializes in installing and servicing all types of fuel burning equipment. Its experience includes burning alternate fuels, such as light and heavy oils, sawdust, digester gas, landfill gas, coal and oxygen enriched pulverized coal. ACSI’s core value focus is: “Client-centered customer service while exceeding expectations.”

ACSI’s three divisions include: Piping and mechanical installations (ACSI Mechanical), refractory repairs and installations (American Refractories) and 24-hour service (American Combustion Service, Inc.).

Autumn Construction Services

Autumn is a mechanical construction contractor providing mechanical HVAC systems installation and service for commercial and institutional clients and municipal agencies. Established in 1995 to provide project management and mechanical systems expertise to Chicago area owners and contractors, the company expanded its construction project management capabilities with the addition of staff professionals with backgrounds in architectural, civil and structural disciplines in 2005.

EHMS Mechanical Services

EHMS Mechanical Services traces its roots back more than 30 years to the V.A. Smith Company. The then-new company quickly became recognized for innovative mechanical design, quality installation and excellent customer service – qualities that have continued for three decades.

“EHMS repairs, replaces and maintains a lot of equipment for industries that other mechanical providers do not – boilers, chillers, ventilation systems, piping, data centers, food plants, snow melt systems and more,” the company says. “We also design and craft solutions for businesses that may know what results they need, but aren’t certain how to get there. Founded in 1931 as a boiler and radiator installation service provider during the tract housing boom F. E. Moran has grown throughout the past eight decades, adding seven additional business units to complete the spectrum of life comfort and safety needs. The business units provide service and maintenance for mechanical systems, plumbing, fire protection systems, and security systems.

Helm Group & Mechanical, Inc.

With expertise is CAD/BIM, building automation, construction, engineering, fabrication modularization and facility management and service, Helm Group & Mechanical supports industries ranging from government and high rise to energy, healthcare, industrial and higher education through multiple offices.

Ideal Heating Company

Ideal Heating Company is a privately held business in Brookfield, categorized under warm air heating and air conditioning contractors. Manta shows it was established in 1917. Current estimates shows it employs a staff of approximately 25.

RMC Mechanical
