Granite Construction‘s wholly-owned subsidiary, Kenny Construction Company, has been awarded a $46 million contract by the City of Chicago for the Navy Pier Flyover’s Lakefront Trail Project Phase III.

This project is in the final phase of construction for the Navy Pier Flyover multi-use path which will reduce congestion and improve safety for bicyclists and pedestrians near Navy Pier and Oak Street Beach, the company says in a statement.

Construction of Phase III begins at the southern limits of the Phase II project, also being constructed by Kenny, and extends through the existing bridge houses and across the Chicago River alongside the iconic Lake Shore Drive bascule bridge. The scope of work includes structural and mechanical rehabilitation of the existing bascule bridge, structural and architectural modifications to the bridge houses, installation of new dolphin structures and micropile deep foundations, as well as bridge painting.

Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2018 and conclude in summer 2020.
