Chicago City Council has given the go-ahead to a major residential redevelopment project at the former Maybelline headquarters, 5920 N. Ridge Ave. in Edgewater.

Spearheaded by Ernst Development and Envoi Partners, the project will transform the iconic three-story building that originally opened in 1914. Currently, the building has 52 residential units on the upper floors and retail spaces on the ground level.

The latest plan will preserve a 3,000 sq. ft. retail space and the remaining first-floor area will be transformed into 17 new residential units around a central courtyard.

Architectural design was by Hirsch MPG. A construction timeline is not yet released.
