The City of Chicago has issued a $9,615,953 building permit for a 20,700 gross sq. ft. University of Chicago research building.
The permit issued on Oct. 20 for the site at 5602 S. Maryland Ave. describes the project as a single-storey high bay building with mechanical mezzanine. “Proposed use: Open plan research laboratory for developing large scale scientific instruments. Includes bridge crane, auxiliary office space below mezzanine.”
Key subtrades listed on the permit include: Electrical – Taylor Electric Company; masonry – Colvin Masonry, Inc. and Hugh Henry Construction; plumber-plumbing – D.A.M. Plumbing Inc.; and refrigeration and mechanical – McCauley Mech.
Editor’s note: UChicago said in a statement on Oct. 28 that “The concrete subcontractor is Gallagher Construction not Hugh Henry Construction.” The university also advised Chicago Construction News that the building permit value should be $9,615,953, not $96,159,530 as recorded by the City of Chicago building permit database.
