Three construction workers were injured when a building under construction collapsed in Machesney Park on Monday afternoon.
The incident happened at a local manufacturing facility in the 9900 block of North Alpine Road where a building expansion was under construction, officials said.
Injured workers were reportedly operating three Hi Lift cranes at the time of the collapse. Two were taken to a local hospital for treatment and the other refused treatment.
They were up in some cranes doing some work,” John Bergeron, chief of the Harlem Roscoe Fire Protection District said a news conference.”All three cranes came down.
“The whole structure collapsed that was under construction. All the I-beams, all the steel came down on top of the Hi-lifts.”
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is investigating the collapse and assessing the extent of the damage.
