Vantive, a newly independent company focused on kidney and vital organ therapies, will open its U.S. headquarters in Deerfield and invest $23 million in the project, state officials announced Monday.
The move follows the company’s planned separation from Baxter International in early 2025. Vantive, formerly Baxter’s Kidney Care segment, will expand its office and pharmacy operations in the north suburban village, creating at least 50 full-time jobs. The company plans to retain its current local workforce of more than 200 employees.
Illinois awarded Vantive an EDGE tax credit as part of a broader incentive package to support the relocation.
“We’re continuing our long history in Deerfield and investing in a future focused on better care for patients,” said Chris Toth, Vantive’s CEO. “This new headquarters will support collaboration and innovation in our next phase as a standalone company.”
Founded on a legacy of more than 70 years in kidney care, Vantive offers dialysis and intensive care therapies, along with digital tools and services for patients and healthcare providers. It officially launched as an independent company earlier this year.
Governor JB Pritzker said the announcement reinforces Illinois’ growing status as a hub for life sciences and health technology.
“Vantive’s decision to stay and grow in Illinois shows the strength of our healthcare and innovation sectors,” Pritzker said.
State and local officials welcomed the investment, noting the potential for job creation and economic impact in Lake County. The area has become a focal point for pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies in recent years.
According to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, businesses participating in the EDGE program have pledged more than $650 million in statewide investments so far this year.
