MWRD hosting virtual tour of water infrastructure

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) is hosting a free virtual tour of the region’s water infrastructure on June 13 at 2 p.m.

MWRD is the wastewater treatment and stormwater management agency for Chicago and 128 suburban communities within Cook County.

Nearly 500 billion gallons of wastewater is treated by the seven water reclamation plants every year and the wastewater treatment capacity is over 2 billion gallons per day. MWRD has a YouTube channel.

The virtual tour is an opportunity to “travel back in time to early Chicago to see how we reversed the Chicago River and developed wastewater treatment technology.

“Go behind the scenes and under water to see how we transform water; descend 300 feet into the deep tunnel system, and watch our electrofishing crew at work sampling fish on the Chicago River.”
