IDOT seeks public feedback on $64.5 million plan to rebuild Illinois Route 29 in Peoria Heights

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is seeking public comment on plans to rebuild a section of Illinois Route 29 in Peoria Heights, a project that could demolish eight homes and relocate a landmark.

The state plans improvements to a 2.6 mile stretch of Route 29. adding a bi-directional turn lane and space to accommodate pedestrians and bicycle riders.

IDOT said in a news release that about an acre of park district property to highway use and relocate the Grand View Drive Pavillion about 40 to 60 feet. The pavilion is on the National Register of Historic Places.

An open house public hearing was held Dec. 4 and comments can be emailed to DO*********************@Il******.gov or mailed to Karen Dvorsky, IDOT Program Development Engineer, 401 Main St., Peoria, IL 61602.

IDOT says the five-year project will cost $64.5 million and construction will start in 2027.
