DSV Contract Logistics North America has broken ground on a 783,000-sq. ft. logistics facility in Plainfield, marking a major expansion of the company’s Chicago-area operations.

The Sept. 3 ceremony was attended by DSV executives, local officials, clients and representatives of developer Alston Construction. Company officials said the project strengthens DSV’s position in one of the nation’s key transportation hubs.

The facility will include more than 740,000 square feet of warehouse floor space and nearly 44,000 square feet of mezzanine space, along with 40-foot clearances, 75 dock doors and three drive-in doors. It is designed to accommodate pallet racking, floor storage and a range of order fulfillment and value-added services.

Advanced safety and security systems will be integrated into the warehouse, along with a smart building management system intended to improve energy efficiency and align with DSV’s sustainability commitments.

“Today is a big day for DSV, with the continued growth of our business as showcased by this state-of-the-art facility,” said Josh Summers, president of DSV Contract Logistics North America. “This warehouse is ideally located for distribution and fulfillment across the United States, which will solidify our ability to serve clients in the industrial and consumer products sectors in particular.”

Situated near Interstate 55, the Plainfield site provides access to rail lines, seven interstate highways and O’Hare International Airport, allowing DSV to support clients shipping throughout the United States and worldwide.
