Cultivate Collective building $37 million S.W. Chicago school as part of $60 million national demonstration site

Cultivate Collective is building a $37 million school as part of a $60 million “net-positive energy national demonstration site” in southwest Chicago.

The Academy for Global Citizenship owns the two story school at 4942 W. 44th St., according to a building permit issued on March 16. “Drilling of geothermal wells permitted under CDOT Permit EFP-112692).”

The Cultivate Collective website says “community-based collaborators are working hand-in-hand to revitalize six currently vacant acres of a former low-income housing project into a thriving community hub.”

“This shovel-ready, $60 million investment is on track to break ground in April of 2022 and will generate greatly needed economic and community development to the city’s under-resourced southwest side,” the site says.

​”Our center for community learning and wellness will catalyze surrounding development and will directly generate 1,000 union and green jobs throughout the course of construction, and 125 permanent positions, in addition to providing skills training and apprenticeships leading to long-term local employment outcomes.”

Power Construction Company is the school building’s general contractor. Key subtrades include: Electrical – G&M Electrical Contractors; plumber/plumbing – AMS Mechanical Services Inc.; and ventilation – F.E. Moran Inc.
