Amazon is proposing a major new retail development at the southwest corner of 159th Street and LaGrange Road, a long-vacant site that formerly housed Petey’s II restaurant. The project, which will be reviewed by the Orland Park Plan Commission, represents a significant investment in one of the village’s busiest commercial corridors.
The concept plan calls for a one-story commercial building of approximately 229,000 square feet, primarily for retail, with a limited warehouse component to support on-site operations. Multiple future commercial outlots are also included in the proposal, which spans roughly 35 acres.
“Interest from a global retailer of this scale reflects confidence in Orland Park, its infrastructure, and its long-term economic outlook,” said Mayor Jim Dodge. “It demonstrates that Orland Park continues to be viewed as a premier destination for major commercial investment.”
The development would offer a wide range of products, including groceries and general merchandise, with potential prepared-food options. Village officials note the project could generate significant sales tax revenue, funding municipal services and infrastructure improvements without adding residential density to the already busy area.
To improve traffic flow, the village is evaluating the extension of Ravinia Avenue south to 161st Street, which would create a direct connection to LaGrange Road and help divert turning traffic away from the intersection. The concept plan also includes separate access points for customers and delivery vehicles to reduce congestion and improve safety.
“This is about smart commercial growth that pays for itself, improves traffic movement, and positions this corridor for long-term success,” Dodge said.
The Plan Commission will review the proposal as part of Orland Park’s standard public process, with any future consideration by the Village Board occurring at a publicly noticed meeting.
Construction and economic impacts, including job creation during both construction and operations, are expected to benefit the local community while supporting the village’s long-term development goals.
This project highlights the continued attractiveness of Orland Park to major national and global retailers, reinforcing the area’s status as a key commercial hub in the southwest Chicago suburbs.
