Grace Terrace has received zoning approval in Arlington Heights. Located at 1519-1625 S. Arlington Heights Road, the 25-unit housing project is designed to provide affordable, supportive housing for veterans and individuals with disabilities.

The Arlington Heights Board of Commissioners’ decision to rezone the 4-acre site from an office-transitional designation to institutional use, among other approvals, was a victory years in the making.  All units will be universally designed, ADA-compliant, and adaptable to meet a wide range of physical, developmental, and mental disability needs.

Veterans and individuals with disabilities earning 30% to 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) will be the target market for the development.

In addition, the two-story building will have a community room, computer lab and library, fitness centre, laundry facilities and community garden.

Also, a social service office and on-site property management for resident support.

The Daily Herald reports that to address concerns from local residents, the developers have made significant adjustments to the original plan, reducing the height from three stories to two to better align with the neighborhood’s character, realigning the entrance and parking lot and adding a privacy fence and extensive landscaping ensure minimal disruption to neighbors.
