The Village of Schaumburg has released a $453 million, five-year capital improvement plan (CIP) focused on roadways, utilities, facilities, and redevelopment areas.
For the first year, beginning May 1, $107.7 million in capital investment is planned with $25.4 million in offsetting revenue through state and federal grants. Below are highlights of the projects slated in the upcoming year:
Street improvements
- $45.9 million for design and construction of village-owned streets.
- $14 million to improve Braintree Drive from Bode Road to Wise Road.
- $13.7 million to complete reconstruction of McConnor Parkway.
- $6.2 million to resurface Woodfield Road from Barrington Road to Springinsguth Road.
- $2.7 million to resurface Walnut Lane from Bode Road to Schaumburg Road.
- $8 million for reconstruction and resurfacing of residential streets.
- $800,000 to install a new traffic signal on Schaumburg Road at the entrance to the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts and School District 54 Administration Building.
Utilities
- $18.2 million for repairs to utility infrastructure including water, storm drainage, and sanitary sewer systems.
- $7.6 million in sanitary sewer and stormwater repairs associated with Braintree Drive improvements.
- $3 million to rehabilitate the 55-year-old Walnut Lane lift station, replacing deteriorating equipment and enhancing system reliability.
90 North Improvements
- $7.4 million to support continued redevelopment in the village’s 90 North District.
- Design of the Thoreau Drive realignment along with the Walden Subdivision Water and Sanitary improvements ($2.9 million together), including creation of new development parcels, addresses stormwater needs, improves access to the Schaumburg Convention Center, and modernizes existing private utilities into public systems that align with the future roadway layout.
- Design and land acquisition for the 90 North Pedestrian Bridge (approximately $1.8 million) that will position the project for construction in FY 28/29, enhancing walkability and connectivity within the district.
Facilities
- $22 million to complete construction of the new Village Hall.
- $1.7 million to complete the final design of the new Public Safety Building which will be located at 1000 Woodfield Road (location of the current Temporary Village Hall).
- Additional improvements include upgrades to the Public Works truck wash, new overhead doors at the Vehicle Maintenance Facility, and replacement of underground fuel storage tanks.
“The Capital Improvement Plan reflects the Village Board’s long-standing priorities and our commitment to invest in Schaumburg’s future responsibly,” said Village Manager Brian Townsend. “This year’s program builds on Schaumburg’s momentum, enhancing essential infrastructure, and encouraging redevelopment that benefits the community for years to come.
“By actively pursuing outside funding, the village is able to stretch local tax dollars further and deliver greater value to residents and businesses.”
