The Village of Cary has officially broken ground on a new Well and Water Treatment Facility at Cary Lake in Rotary Park, marking a major milestone in the community’s long-term effort to strengthen its water infrastructure.

Village officials joined representatives from engineering firm HR Green and contractor Manusos General Contracting for a groundbreaking ceremony on Dec. 4. The project follows years of planning, engineering analysis and public input aimed at securing a reliable and sustainable drinking water supply.

The $12.25 million project is being funded almost entirely through support from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), which awarded Cary $12 million in loan forgiveness. Village leaders said the state assistance significantly reduces the local financial burden while allowing construction of critical infrastructure needed to meet future demand.

Once complete, the new facility will expand water capacity, improve reliability and introduce upgraded treatment capabilities for residents and businesses. Officials called the project a central component of the Village’s long-term capital plan and an example of effective collaboration between the community and state agencies.

“Today, we are pleased to announce the start of construction for our new well and water treatment facility, a project that will ensure sustainable drinking water in Cary for generations to come,” Mayor Mark Kownick said at the ceremony.

Construction is expected to continue into 2027. The village will provide updates on its website at CaryIllinois.com.
