The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) has announced more than $50 million in state and federal funding to build permanent supportive housing (PSH) across the state. Funding will go to the construction and rehabilitation of seven developments, creating 129 new units of affordable housing. The projects are aimed at helping vulnerable individuals and families access stable housing and comprehensive support services.

Each development will include on-site services tailored to residents’ needs, such as healthcare referrals, employment assistance, and case management, all designed to help individuals achieve long-term stability and independence.

“Housing is the foundation for health, financial stability, educational achievement, and overall quality of life,” said IHDA Executive Director Kristin Faust. “Illinois is committed to transforming systems, establishing new partnerships, and using every available resource to tackle these challenges.”

The projects were selected through a competitive application process, with funding decisions guided by several key housing studies and strategic plans. These included the Annual Comprehensive Housing Plan, the Illinois Housing Blueprint, and the Qualified Allocation Plan, all of which provide data and insights to address the state’s housing needs. The initiative is part of Illinois’ broader goal of achieving “Functional Zero Homelessness,” a standard where homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring.

“Investments in supportive housing like Hope Springs Addition in Springfield are transforming lives by creating stability and opportunity for those who need it most,” said State Senator Doris Turner.
