Online home goods retailer Wayfair is building a fulfillment center in Romeoville.

The new 1.2 million sq. ft. fulfillment center will be located on a 60 acre parcel of land along Renwick Rd. The company plans to hire more than 250 full-time roles with peak employment eventually approaching 500 jobs.

Construction is scheduled to begin this spring with a projected opening in mid 2022.

“Our new fulfillment center in Romeoville will enable us to further scale our excellent shopping experience to meet the needs of our rapidly growing customer base in the greater Chicago region and across the U.S.,” Wayfair COO Thomas Netzer stated.

In advance of this project, the Village of Romeoville partnered with Illinois State Senator John Connor to secure funding for a road extension. As part of that plan, Pinnacle Drive will be connected from Airport Road to Renwick Rd., which will give traffic an alternative to using Weber Rd. or Route 53. The extension is being funded by a grant from the Build Illinois Program. It will cover the new section of Pinnacle, acquisition of land for the road, and a signalized intersection at Pinnacle and Renwick.

Romeoville, a Chicago suburb, is a logistics and transportation hub where Amazon also has a fulfillment center, while Crate & Barrel is preparing to build one there.
