Path Construction has started work on the transformation of 111 W. Illinois, converting the upper floors of a former office building into 153 luxury apartments. “High-impact reuse. Prime location. All powered by the team at Path Construction,” the company said in announcing the project. The building, formerly Salesforce’s Midwest headquarters, was built in 2008 and sits in the heart of River North, one of Chicago’s most active residential submarkets. Path Development, the project’s developer, says the conversion marks its inaugural undertaking in the city and reflects a growing trend of adapting underused office space into housing.
River North has long been considered one of Chicago’s most desirable neighborhoods, known for its walkability, restaurants, galleries and access to downtown. The developer says the project responds to demand for high-quality housing in the area, where new multifamily supply has consistently outpaced available office space in recent years.
Path says the building’s modern design and infrastructure make it particularly well suited for adaptive reuse. Construction is fully entitled and is expected to proceed without major regulatory hurdles. The new apartments will be designed to meet contemporary lifestyle preferences, while preserving the structure’s architectural character.
The company says 111 W. Illinois exemplifies its commitment to strategic urban redevelopment and sustainable growth. By turning a prime office property into much-needed housing, Path aims to contribute to Chicago’s push for more downtown living options.
