A local nonprofit workforce development organization is celebrating the grand opening of a new development center designed to increase diversity in Chicago’s construction and trade industries. The newly renovated space at 25th and State, once a dilapidated storehouse, is now home to Hire360, a center dedicated to providing opportunities for underrepresented communities in the trades.
“This new center is sending a clear message: Illinois is open for business,” Gov. JB Pritzker said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Hire360 offers support to young people and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds with training for careers in the construction and trade sectors.
“This is part of the ongoing struggle for true liberation for workers in this city, including Black and Brown communities. Today is a good day for Chicago,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Since its inception, Hire360 has helped more than 500 candidates launch careers in the trades. With the opening of the new center, the nonprofit hopes to increase that number and continue connecting individuals with apprenticeships and high-paying jobs in industries that have long been difficult to access for marginalized communities.
