The construction of the Bronzeville Health Center at 467 E 31st Street in Chicago will play a pivotal role in meeting the community’s healthcare needs, particularly in family medicine, behavioral health, and rehabilitation services.

Cook County Health has announced that the 26,000-square-foot facility will cost approximately $10 million and is expected to be completed by early 2025.

“The Health Center promises not only to address immediate health needs but also to drive long-term improvements in health outcomes on Chicago’s South Side,” said County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “It will be crucial in tackling the persistent systemic barriers to health and will contribute to a healthier and more equitable future for Cook County.”

The center will be housed in a two-story, 26,000-square-foot building that was originally constructed in 1959 for Illinois Bell. Designed by the esteemed architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), the building has recently been updated with a new white exterior, modern windows, and enhanced landscaping.

Construction will be completed by early 2025. The facility will feature 44 exam rooms, designed to handle a high patient volume, with an anticipated 85,000 patient visits in its first year, consolidating family medicine and behavioral health services currently based at Provident Hospital’s Sengstacke Health Center. This relocation will free up space at Provident Hospital for expanded services.

Additionally, the center will offer a range of rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy, in a specialized gym area.
