The Illinois Tollway Board of Directors approved six contracts totaling more than $30.4 million at its May meeting, marking a key step in implementing the Bridging the Future plan. These include the first construction and construction management contracts for the initiative.
“We are beginning to deliver contracts through Bridging the Future this year and will continue ramping up opportunities as the Move Illinois program enters its final years,” said Cassaundra Rouse, Illinois Tollway executive director. “We want to ensure our investments remain consistent and that the Tollway continues to be an economic engine for the region.”
So far in 2025, the Tollway has approved nearly $179.6 million in contracts, including $141.3 million for the 14th year of Move Illinois and $38.3 million for Bridging the Future. The total investment for 2025 is $1.15 billion. Since 2012, nearly $11.8 billion has been invested in capital improvements, creating or sustaining an estimated 141,500 jobs.
Construction Contract Awards:
- $13.3 million to K-Five Construction Corp., Westmont, for toll plaza improvements on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) between Illinois Route 31 and Illinois Route 59.
- $5.2 million to Foundation Mechanics, Chicago, for drainage improvements on the Tri-State Tollway (I-94) between Atkinson Road and Townline Road.
- $3.3 million to Martinez Frogs Inc., Melrose Park, for drainage improvements on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) near the 75th Street Interchange.
- $3.1 million to Foundation Mechanics, Chicago, for southbound entrance ramp construction for the 88th Avenue/Cork Avenue Interchange Project on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294).
- $2.5 million to MYS Inc., Palos Heights, for bridge rehabilitation on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) between Rockton Road and Rote Road.
Engineering Contract Award:
- $3 million to Lakeshore Engineering, Chicago, for construction management services on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294).
The contracts include 13 certified disadvantaged, minority-, and women-owned business enterprises (D/M/WBE) and 10 certified veteran-owned firms. D/M/WBE participation ranges from 22.7% to 80%, with veteran participation from 2.04% to 5%.
The Illinois Tollway awards construction contracts through competitive bidding and selects professional engineering services based on qualifications, as outlined by Illinois Public Act 87-673.
