Construction professionals from across Illinois will gather on June 28 for the 2025 Illinois Construction Hike for Hope, an event aimed at raising awareness of suicide prevention and supporting mental health in the construction industry.

Hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the event will take place at Hidden Lake Forest Preserve in Downers Grove. On-site registration begins at 10 a.m., followed by a program at 11 a.m. The event concludes at 1 p.m. Complimentary parking is available near the Route 53 entrance just south of Butterfield Road.

The construction and extraction industries have the highest suicide rates in the United States, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Hike for Hope initiative seeks to address this reality through education, outreach, and community support. The event is designed to provide an opportunity for reflection while promoting resources for intervention and postvention.

Participation is free, and there is no fundraising minimum. However, individuals who raise $150 or more by the event date will receive a Hike for Hope t-shirt. Additional recognition gifts are also available.

Funds raised support AFSP’s work in improving mental health outcomes among construction workers through targeted programs and resources. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses and organizations that want to support the cause and demonstrate their commitment to worker wellbeing.

For more information, including registration and sponsorship details, visit afsp.org/construction or contact Diana Cazares at dc******@**sp.org or 312-802-9714.
