F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielson starts work on $55 million new Chicago Parks District Headquarters, 17-acre park

Chicago has issued a $55 million building permit for the new Chicago Park District Headquarters and a 17-acre park at 4830 Western Ave. in Brighton Park.

F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen is the general contractor for the project designed by John Ronan Architects.

The permit issued on May 20 describes the project as a “17-acre park with artificial turf fields, playground, nature play, spray feature, walkways and parking.”

“Two-story, mixed-use new construction building consisting of Chicago Park District Headquarters(B Business) and Chicago Park District Fieldhouse (A3 Assembly). Mixed occupancies separated by 2-hour assembly, structural permit review of precast grandstand west of turf fields to be deferred as a separate permit review of structural drawings and calculations to be provided by precast contractor. Phase I and II Zoning reviews and approvals to be completed simultaneous with standard building plan review.”

Chicago YIMBY reports that the site is land bound by W. 48th Street, Western Avenue, the CTA L Orange Line tracks, and S Rockwell Street. “Planned for the southeast quadrant of this parcel will be the headquarters and fieldhouse buildings, each two stories. Together, the footprints of the two buildings will form the shape of a whole circle, and will be divided by a pathway and courtyard areas,” the website reports.

“The headquarters portion will involve open office floor plans with interspersed meeting rooms, and will be able to accommodate more than 200 employees. The neighboring fieldhouse building will contain 19,000 sq. ft. of recreational programming, including a gymnasium, fitness room, and club room. The gymnasium area will contain a full-size basketball court and grandstand, while the club room will connect to an adjoining terrace space.”

Key subtrades include: Electrical – Block Electric Company; masonry – All Masonry Const. Co. Inc.; plumber/plumbing – Union Mechanical LLC; and refrigeration and mechanical – Amber Mechanical.
