The Greater Chicago Food Depository is getting ready to begin a million-dollar kitchen project.
The food bank plans to build a 40,000-sq.-ft. kitchen on a vacant lot adjacent to its headquarters on Chicago’s Southwest Side, reports the Chicago Tribune.
The new kitchen will prepare meals for home delivery and is expected to produce 4 million meals a year.
The $50-million project requires approvals from the city’s planning and zoning board and the city council before starting construction.
