Amazon.com has announced plans to open a new fulfillment center in Monee, IL. At the more than 850,000 sq. ft.facility, hundreds of Amazon employees will pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics and consumer goods, the company said in a news release.

“We place our fulfillment centers close to customers to provide the fastest possible delivery times, and the growth in Illinois is directly tied to our increasing customer demand,” said Akash Chauhan, vic- president of Amazon’s North America operations. “Illinois is a great state to do business, and we are happy to be expanding there to serve customers.”

“We feel very fortunate that Amazon has decided to build another fulfillment center in Will County, bringing the total facilities here to four,” said Will County Executive Lawrence Walsh. “It’s very exciting to think that Amazon could soon be employing thousands and thousands of full-time employees in the area. We look forward to the Monee site opening.”

The project is being developed by RELP Bailly, LLC, an affiliate of USAA Real Estate, Amazon said.

In its leads report, DataBid.com said the project developer is Seefried Properties, based in Des Plaines, phone (847) 298-1122.

DataBid reports that design development is underway but the bidding timetable is undetermined and the project value has not been published. The site will be at 6521 West Monee Manhattan Rd., DataBid.com says.
