A proposal by Amazon to build a large industrial facility on Chicago’s Southwest Side is the only item scheduled for consideration at the city’s Plan Commission hearing on July 16. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. at City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle Street, 11th Floor, Room 1103.
Amazon is seeking approval for an Industrial Planned Development at a site generally located at 2800–3156 W. 51st Street, 4911–5061 S. Kedzie Avenue and 4914–5058 S. California Avenue.
The proposal calls for rezoning the property from an M2-2 Light Industry District to an Industrial Planned Development designation to allow for a warehousing, wholesaling and freight movement operation.
The planned development would include a primary industrial building of approximately 235,137 square feet and 244 parking spaces, according to city planning documents.
The site is located within the Brighton Park Industrial Corridor, an area designated for manufacturing and industrial activity.
If approved, the project would add a major logistics facility to the corridor, though details about the project’s timeline, construction schedule and potential employment impact were not immediately available.
The plan commission will review the proposal during its July 16 hearing. A recommendation from the commission would be part of the city’s approval process before the project could move forward.
