A M King, a fully integrated design-build firm, is overseeing a large-scale renovation and expansion at ALDI US corporate headquarters in Batavia. Interiors of three existing office buildings on the 60-acre campus will be completely refurbished, in addition to design and construction of a fourth structure — bringing the total office square footage at this location to approximately 250,000-sq. ft. Company goals for this project are centered around operational efficiency, sustainability and employee retention.

The expansion includes refurbishing three existing office buildings on Aldi’s 60-acre campus to create a more open-concept design. The renovations will include updated finishes, glass meeting rooms, energy-efficient lighting, new HVAC systems, digital meeting room schedulers, and audio/visual systems for enhanced collaboration.

In addition to the renovations, Aldi will build a new 56,000-sq. ft. office building, bringing the total office space on the campus to about 250,000 sq. ft.. The new building will feature a green roof pollinator garden, a fitness center, a third-party food service area, and a conference center. It will also include a two-story atrium, skylight, conversational staircase, and an outdoor courtyard with sustainable plantings.

The project will involve significant utility upgrades and sustainable design elements. It will be completed in phases to allow the campus to remain operational during construction.

Aldi’s Batavia campus also houses a 496,000-sq. ft. distribution center. The company has worked with A M King since 2004, when the firm built a five-story office building for the retailer.

The renovation and expansion come as Aldi continues its rapid growth in the U.S. In March, the company announced plans to increase its U.S. store count by 30 percent by 2028, adding 800 new locations and converting former Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores it recently acquired from Southeastern Grocers. Aldi currently operates more than 2,400 U.S. stores and plans to hire over 13,000 employees for new store and warehouse positions.

The timeline for the completion of the Batavia expansion project has not yet been disclosed.
