Power Construction has topped out the fifth and final building at a 200-acre Compass Datacenters campus in Hoffman Estates, Ill., with the project targeting completion in 2027.

The milestone was reached less than 12 months after construction started on the first foundation, according to Compass Datacenters officials. The campus is being developed on the former Sears headquarters site.

Power Construction marked the occasion with a lunch and raffle for more than 800 workers involved in the project.

Compass Datacenters CEO Chris Crosby attended the celebration and praised the construction team’s work.

“Fifteen years ago, Compass was a dream. Watching this, this is awesome. Y’all built the best building we’ve had in our portfolio,” Crosby said.

The development is expected to transform the former corporate headquarters property into a technology hub, bringing jobs and tax revenue to Hoffman Estates.

Mayor Bill McLeod also attended the event. Power Construction credited the village, local police and fire services with supporting the project.

Construction work will continue across the site as crews move toward completing all five buildings. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 2027.
