Edged US has broken ground on its second state-of-the-art data centre on the Edged Chicago campus, marking another major step in expanding high-density, AI-ready digital infrastructure in one of Illinois’s fastest-growing tech hubs.
The new facility, located at 2835 Bilter Rd. in Aurora, is purpose-built for high-density artificial intelligence workloads and will feature the company’s advanced closed-loop, waterless cooling system. Edged says the technology is expected to save more than 277 million gallons of water annually compared with traditional data centres.
Executives from Edged US joined construction leaders and representatives from FCL Builders at the groundbreaking ceremony held yesterday.
“Safety and performance are at the core of everything we do,” said Bryant Farland, Edged US president and CEO. “From design through construction and operations, we hold ourselves and our partners to the highest standards of safety excellence. This new facility demonstrates our commitment to building ultra-efficient, resilient, and secure data centers that protect both people and the planet.”
Farland said Edged is proud to continue its partnership with the City of Aurora as it builds infrastructure that supports innovation, local economic growth and conservation of natural resources.
The Edged Chicago campus is designed to consume zero water for cooling. The new building will be equipped with ThermalWorks’ ultra-efficient, liquid-to-chip cooling system, supporting rack densities of more than 200 kW for AI applications.
Edged opened its first Aurora data centre in February 2025. The second facility is scheduled to be operational in the second quarter of 2027.
Both buildings form part of Edged’s expanding North American network of sustainable, AI-ready data centres, which also includes facilities in Atlanta, Columbus, Council Bluffs, Dallas, Des Moines, Kansas City and Phoenix.
