McHugh Construction hosted its Backpacks & BBQ event last week at Upper Room Missionary Baptist Church in North Lawndale, handing out 200 backpacks filled with school supplies to local students from Kindergarten through Grade 12.
Volunteers included President Kinjal Patel and other executives, along with McHugh employees currently working on the nearby OC Living mixed-income residences, as well as office personnel.
With demand exceeding supply, however, the company has committed to donating an additional 100 backpacks, which will be delivered to the church this Friday.
After receiving items such as notebooks, pens, rulers, markers, and water bottles, families joined McHugh employees for a fun BBQ with burgers, hot dogs, chips, and other refreshments.
