Construction has started on a new six-story hotel in the Chicago Medical District.
The $18.8 million permit issued on Feb. 28 is part of The Gateway, a $300 million mixed-use development. The permit lists Elzie Higginbottom as the owner. A Chicago YIMBY report from May, 2021 associates Higginbottom with East Lake Management and says the overall project is designed by Epstein Global architect.
The permit for 710 S. Seely Ave. says the six story hotel will have 135 rooms.
Other parts of the project include a central plaza, two single-story retail buildings and the 11-story Gateway Apartments.
Burling Builders , Inc. is the hotel’s general contractor, and is also self-performing some masonry work. Subtrades include: Electrical – Belec Electrical, Inc.; masonry – Duco Construction; plumber/plumbing – Triton Plumbing, LLC, and refrigeration and ventilation – Air Design Systems.
