The University of Chicago has secured a $102,591,331 building permit for a four-tower residential complex.
Turner Construction Company is building the 1,300-bed residence hall at the corner of 61st St. and Woodlawn Ave.
The Woodlawn Residential Commons will be the university’s largest dorm, with a series of four towers rising up to 16 stories out of a single-story dining hall. Each tower will be sectioned off into three-story houses, according the permit documentation.
Key subtrades include: Electrical – Gurtz Electric Company; masonry –All Masonry Const. Co. Inc. and Concrete Structures of the Midwest; plumbing – James P. O’Sullivan; refrigeration and ventilation – Hill Mechanical Corp.
Construction of the hall will be completed in 2020.
