The Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) will discuss the 358m tall Greenland Group Suzhou Center tower is currently under construction in Wujiang, China at the next meeting on Feb. 6
Speakers include Aaron Mazeika, an associate director and senior engineer with the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) and Ashpica Chhabra, a SOM Chicago office associate.
The mixed-use building program consists of office floors in the lower levels and a hotel above. The lower level office floor plan is barrel-shaped, while the hotel floor plan consists of two curved single-loaded hotel bars facing north and south. The behavior of this unique ‘coupled-core’ structural solution under lateral and torsional loads and the analysis and detailing of the composite lacing connections will be discussed.
The dinner/meeting will take place at the Cliff Dwellers Club on the 22nd floor at 200 South Michigan Ave.
Fees are $45 for SEAOI members and $65 for non-members. Register online at SEAOI.org or contact of****@se***.org by Friday, Feb. 2.
