The City of Rockford is holding two public hearings to gather input on the five year consolidated plan.
Interactive sessions will let participants identify gaps and determine priority objectives.
Two sessions will be held at 4 p.m. at Crusader Community Health (1200 W State Street, Rockford, IL 61102).
On Sept. 18 the session will focus on information about fair housing and homelessness (9/18/2024), and on Sept. 24 the topic is economic development and housing.
The City of Rockford receives allocated funds from HUD each year under their programs titled the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the HOME Investment Partnership (HOME), and the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG). HUD requires that the city submit a five year consolidated plan that includes a housing needs analysis, market study, analysis of impediments to fair housing, and an action plan to address the issues identified in those steps.
The needs analysis and market study was completed in April and identified the following priorities after focus groups and a community survey:
- Rehab current housing, particularly west of the river
- Build new housing for first time homebuyers
- Build new housing for expected employment growth
- Focus on resources to stabilize seniors on a fixed income, so they can stay in their home or neighborhood.
