McHugh Construction will host a Backpacks & BBQ event on Wed., Aug. 13 at the new Upper Room Missionary Baptist Church in North Lawndale, distributing school supplies to 200 students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The event aims to support local families as they prepare for the upcoming school year. Students will have the opportunity to select from a range of colorful supplies including backpacks, water bottles, pens, highlighters, pencil pouches, colored pencils, folders, notebooks, rulers, markers, and keychains.

In addition to school supplies, complimentary hot dogs, chips, and refreshments will be provided.

The event underscores McHugh Construction’s ongoing commitment to the North Lawndale community. The company has been actively involved in Habitat’s $200 million Ogden Commons development.

This includes OC Living residences — a 92-unit mixed-income building at 1325 S. Washtenaw, a 72-unit mixed-income building currently under construction nearby, and a 45,000-square-foot commercial building at 2652 W. Ogden Ave. The commercial space houses Sinai Chicago’s One Lawndale Community Care and Surgery Center, a Wintrust bank, and a restaurant.

Volunteers for the event will include McHugh Construction executives, such as President Kinjal Patel, employees working on the OC Living project, and office staff.
