Virginia-based Artis Senior Living, LLC plans to build a memory care facility on half of a 10-acre site on Route 59 in Bartlett, located in both DuPage County and Cook County. The firm is also expected to come up with several ideas for utilizing the rest of land.

The firm will build an one-story 72-unit facility, which will serve seniors with related memory disorders and Alzheimer’s disease, on the southwest corner of the vacant land just south of Apple Valley Drive. For the rest of the site, the firm has proposed 11 possibilities which include offices, medical and dental clinics, nursing homes, retailers and single-family homes. The firm has confirmed that these additional plans will not constrain the living facility.

“Right now, they don’t have anybody interested in it, but they would like to proceed on … their project, which is a nice, memory care facility that’s needed in the community,” said community development director Jim Plonczynski, reports Dailyherald.com.

The board forwarded the proposal to the village planning commission in early September. It is reported that village officials can also suggest and add rules to the planning on the rest of the site.

Though the current plan is to build the facility on the front of Route 59 in order to maximize visibility, officials are considering encouraging Artis to move it to eastern side of the road.

“The uses may be fine, but access is a whole separate issue,” said Bartlett village attorney Bryan Mraz. “And I don’t know if those uses listed could survive on a shared drive” with the Artis building.
