A new chapter has begun for Chicago’s southwest suburbs as construction officially starts on the Mosque Foundation Community Center, a transformative $20.1 million project designed to serve the area’s growing recreational, educational, and social needs.

The groundbreaking, held Oct. 3, marks the beginning of a 14-month construction schedule that will bring to life a 53,677-sq. ft. multipurpose facility on the Mosque Foundation’s Bridgeview campus near 93rd Street and Harlem Avenue.

Designed by Legat Architects and built by Charger Construction, the new center represents one of the largest community-focused developments associated with the Mosque Foundation since its founding in the 1980s.

A Legacy of Faith, Vision, and Commitment

The groundbreaking also celebrates the extraordinary contribution of Rocky Aiyash and family, proud owners of Charger Construction, whose steadfast commitment to the Islamic community and decades-long support of the Mosque Foundation have made this dream possible. The Aiyash family, among the original members of the Mosque Foundation, have supported every major initiative for generations — demonstrating an unwavering dedication to faith, family, and community. Their vision, generosity, and leadership continue to inspire future generations and ensure this landmark project stands as a beacon of unity and progress for years to come.

With more than 40 years of experience, Charger Construction has established itself as a national leader in high-quality commercial and hospitality construction, specializing in ground-up projects for leading hotel brands, marinas and developers across the country. Operating offices in Illinois, Florida, California, and Texas, the firm is recognized for its unmatched professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to deliver superior results while maintaining cost efficiency and client satisfaction.

A Center Designed for GenerationsThe new facility will include state-of-the-art recreational, educational, and community spaces, anchored by a three-story atrium with seating areas, a café, and a children’s playroom. Classrooms for youth and adult programs will overlook the atrium, while a rooftop courtyard and garden will provide an outdoor retreat.

Major features include a full-size gymnasium, an indoor soccer field, dual fitness studios, and 20 classrooms designed to serve up to 600 students. Retractable seating and rooftop terraces will make the space adaptable for events, gatherings, and celebrations — with total seating capacity for up to 800 guests.

The exterior design, a contemporary interpretation of Islamic geometric architecture, features architectural precast concrete, metal panels, and colored glass accents that reflect the community’s heritage and forward-looking spirit.

A Lasting Gift to the Community

Upon completion in late 2026, the Mosque Foundation Community Center will stand as one of the largest Muslim community facilities in the southwest suburbs — a place where faith, family, and fellowship come together under one roof.

“This project embodies years of dedication, planning, and collaboration,” mosque officials said. “It will serve as a vibrant center for youth, families, and residents to gather, learn, and grow — a legacy for generations to come.”

The Bridgeview community, Mayor Steven Landek, Sheik Jamal, civic leaders, and congregants alike celebrated the groundbreaking as a milestone not only in construction but in unity — symbolizing the enduring bond between visionaries and the broader community they have long served.
