Construction has started on the second phase of the Fulton Market Streetscape Project, with new sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting, and landscaping from Carpenter Street to Ogden Avenue.
The overall project, including the completed first phase between Halsted and Carpenter Street, has a cost of about $20 million, the city says.
“The new streetscape is a major milestone in the redevelopment of Fulton Market, an area that was Chicago’s economic engine in the 19th century that has been reborn and is now powering the city’s tech and cultural boom,” Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement.
